Maximum range is the farthest distance a round can travel when fired at the optimal angle, under standard conditions. Among these weapons, the M240B has the longest maximum range. It fires a 7.62x51mm round with a heavier projectile and generally longer barrel, giving higher muzzle velocity and a longer ballistic arc than the lighter 5.56mm weapons listed. That combination lets the M240B reach about 3,725 meters, longer than the others. The M4 and M249 use smaller 5.56mm rounds with shorter maximum ranges, and the MSGL does not match the M240B’s reach either.
